ابلسر در قديم مشهدسر نام داشت. احتمالاُ اين نام از واقعهْ شهادت امامزاده ابراهيم ابوجواب ملقب به اطهر ، برادر امام رضا (ع) كه در آنجا مدفون است ، اخذ شده باشد . شهر فعلي بابلسر بيش از صدسال قدمت دارد و در مصب رودخانهْ بابل استقرار يافته است . اين شهر در گذشته به عنوان بندرو مركز تجارت ايران و روسيه رونق داشت . هنگامي كه تجارت بين ايران و روسيه تقليل يافت و بنادر تركمن ، نوشهر و انزلي آباد گرديد، بندر بابلسر موقعيت خود را از دست داد، ولي در دوران اخير بيش از نقاط ديگر شمال مورد توجه رضاشاه قرار گرفت و به صورت شهر كوچك ، ولي زيبا درآمد كه اكنون يكي از بهترين و زيباترين گردشگاهها و استراحت گاههاي شمال ايران به شمار مي رود.
بابلسر از جمله شهرستان هاي زيبا و ترويستي استان است كه تماما در منطقه جلگه اي و در كنار ساحل واقع شده است . رودخانه بابلرود از وسط بابلسر مي گذرد و شهر را به دو قسمت تقسيم كرده است . دو پل زيبا ، كه يكي از آنها توسط آلماني ها و ديگري توسط متخصصان ايراني احداث گرديده زيبايي منحصر بفردي را براي شهر ايجاد كرده ، آب رودخانه بابلسر چون به دريا متصل است به همراه بالا آمدن آب دريا بالا مي آيد . اسكله هاي قايقراني در كنار رودخانه بابلسر با انواع قايقهاي متعدد و پدالو به جذابيت اين رودخانه افزوده است . در شبهای بابلسر روشنايي در شب و انعكاس نور به داخل آب رودخانه فضاي دلپذيري را براي مسافران و گردشگران فراهم مي آورد . البته در كنار اين رودخانه ، پياده رو و فضاي اقامتي به صورت زيبا وجود دارد . درختان صنوبر در دو طرف جاده مانند چتر ، سايه گردشگران بابلسر را در روز فراهم مي آورند .
كشتي هاي ماهيگيران ، زيبايي اين شهر را چندين برابر افزايش داده و وجود ساحل زيبا در كنار هشت پاركينگ در قسمت غرب شهر بابلسر در تابستان با طرحهاي دريا كه به صورت جداگانه براي مردان و زنان ايجاد شده براي گردشگران شهر بابلسر قابل استفاده مي باشد .
از ديگ جاذبه هاي شهر بابلسر منطقه زيباي ميررود مي باشد كه يك مجتمع تفريحي است كه در دست احداث است (سال 80) وجود شهركهاي درياكنار ، خزر شهر شمالي و جنوبي ، درياسر شهر بابلسر را به عنوان يك منطق توريستي تبديل كرده است . اقامت يك شب در بابلسر با مجموعه اقامتي مرتب و زيبا و شنا در ساحل اين شهر و گشت دريايي بهترين اوقات را براي تورهاي يكروزه و گردشگران فراهم مي آورد . لازم به ذكر است در بابلسر ورزش اسكي و قايقراني در دريا و رودخانه براي علاقمندان داير است . قايقهاي تندرو در اين شهر مي تواند سفر درياي خوبي را براي شما فراهم آورد . اماكن ديدني ديگر شهرستان بابلسر عبارتند از :
بقعه تاريخي امامزاده ابراهيم بابلسر
اين بنا در قرن نهم هجري در مركز شهر بابلسر ساخته شد و يكي از زيارتگاههاي مهم مازندران به شمار مي رود بين اهالي به امامزاده ابوجواب نيز معروف است . مصالح عمده آن آجر ، ملاط ساروج و كاشي بوده و گنبد هرمي شكل آن عظمتي خاص دارد . اين بنا از نظر دارا بودن آثار ارزشمند و هنري مانند درهاي نفيس ، صندوق چوبين و كتيبه هاي متعدد شهرت دارد . روي درهاي آن نيز سه تاريخ سالهاي 858 ،857 ،841 هجري قمري حك شده است .
Babolsar township
Babolsar is one of the torism attractive and beautiful cities of the province, of the sea side.
Babol rod river passes through the babolsar and divides it in two parts, two bridge are made on the river, one is made by german engineers and the second one by iranian experts.
From distance babolsar bridge gives special view to the sity, in the river many people do boating.
There is side pass both side of the river, so travellers and tourists can walk and sit and have nice time, having meal and staying at night.
Babolsar has beautiful beach, Another attractive place for the tourists is a new under going constraction of mir rod area and presence of darya kenar, north south khazar shahr, and darya sar colonies.

Babolsar is a city in Iran.It is located on the southern coast of the Caspian sea, in Mazandaran province. Since the Babol river passes through the city, both the bank of the river and the beach of the sea potentially form excellent tourist attractions in the city.
The existence of the central organization and the major faculties of the University of Mazandaran here, means that a significant scientific environment exists in this city. The availability of good fertile land including paddy fields around the city forms a beautiful landscape which is very pleasant to visitors. Babolsar has an area of 446 sq.km and the population of the city itself is just over 300,000, but the construction of some new tourist towns nearby, increases the population by up to a hundred thousand in some seasons of the year.
Formerly it used to be called "Mashhadsar", which "literally means "place of martyrdom" having more than 100 years of antiguity and is developed in the mouth of Babol River. In the past, this city was flourishing as a port and the center of Iran-Russia trade. When this commercial relation diminished, this port lost its importance. But again in early Pahlavi time, it was paid due attention and was changed to a small and beautiful city. Now, it is one of the best recreational places of the north of Iran. Babolsar city in Mazandaran province
The township of Babolsar stretches out in a north-south direction, to the north of which is the township of Babolsar, and the coastal plains. Whereas, to the south is the township of Damavand, in the Tehran province. Apart from the northern sector and central sections that are located in the plains, the southern segment in the mountainous region, being cold in the upper areas and humid and temperate in the plains.
The original name of the city was Mamtir and in the 10th century AH. the city of Barforoosh came up in its place and in the year 160 AH. Maziyar Ebne Qaran constructed the Jame` Mosque.
During the Savafid and Qajar eras the city prospered and thrived specially in the economic field and took an important position during the reign of Fathali Shah. Before the October revolution in Russia, Babol maintained commercial ties with Russia, via the Port of Babolsar, and thereby became one of the important trading centers in Mazandaran province.
Today, it is one of the most beautiful cities of the province and is located 268 km. from Tehran
